WTF is a GBU?
G/B/U is: The Good, The Bad, and The Unexpected.
This is my daily travelogue,
I’ll be sharing a bit about each day; sites seen, places stayed, ice-cream I ate. And of course a few shots snapped that day.
But it's also more than that, every day I’ll share what stood out - one good thing, one bad thing, and something that was unexpected.
The idea for the G/B/U started when I rode my bicycle across the US in 2014 as a way to share my day with friends and family and keep a little record of each day for myself. Obviously this is a play on The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - but before I even got started it occurred to me that ‘bad’ and ‘ugly’ were both negatives and I didn’t want to focus on the negative. ‘Unexpected’ left space for anything. It might be a second 'good' or a second 'bad' thing, or it might be something genuinely offbeat, like the time I rode the world’s largest Jackalope, or slid down a fireman’s pole, ate huckleberry pie, or came across a group of Scandinavian co-eds bathing in a hot spring in the woods.
Along the same lines, some days will be better or worse than others. On particularly bad days ‘Good’ might be scrapping the barrel with “at least I didn’t get a flat tire”, and on glowingly positive days ‘Bad’ might merely be “I didn’t have any pie today.”
If all goes to plan, I will be on the road 222 days. Which gives me 222 opportunities for gratitude, 222 lamentations, and 222 surprises.
I can’t even tell you how excited I am for this trip and to share it with you, but I’ll also have 222 chances to try.
I hope you’ll follow along regularly. Bookmark the blog and check back once a week - maybe start your Monday with a vicarious visit to vanlife. Or pop in once a month to binge the G/B/U instead of Netflix. Regardless, I'm thrilled to share this adventure with you, and honored that you're following along.
Cheers - Aaron 'AthleticNerd'
